Question: Hello Padraig!

I like very much to pray and spend a lot of time praying. Sometimes I feel a strong wish in praying for some situation or person for long time or many times per day. But there are times that I can't even concentrate on my daily rosary and lost interest in praying.

Is that normal? It seems like waves.

thank you,

Erika

Answer: Hi Erika,

Yes it is normal. The mind is a bit like a bee hive and our thoughts are like little bees that wander all over the place. As far as we can we should try to shepherd the bees, gently back to were they should be , gazing at the Lord.

I think generally try to give the best part of your day, the part were you are at your best to Jesus. Do so constantly and do not be discouraged. Also try to give at least half an hour at a stretch as it takes a little time for the bees to settle.

If the bees are crazy don't worry the effort itself is your prayer. God judges our success's in ways very different than our own.

I read a nice thing this morning from a very holy French lady called Simone Weill. Simone said when we pray we are like slaves , waiting at the doorway of our hearts for the coming of Jesus. He may come in minutes, He may be hours or years yet the slave stands by the door of her heart ready to greet the Lord when He enters.

So always keep the lamp of prayer lit, even if the Lord is long in coming, for come He will for He has said, 'I will come and make my home in you'

At the end of the day we shall be judged on love.
